When I realized I had nine days to get ready to move, my first instinct was exactly what you would expect from someone with a project management background.
Make a list.
Actually, make several lists. Even better if it's in Excel!
I am very good at making a giant list of everything that could possibly need to happen and then convincing myself that all of it is equally important.
This time I did something a little different.
I started taking things off.

Not everything needed to happen before moving day
There were things I absolutely had to deal with.
There were also things that would have been nice to finish, organize, clean out, rethink, or improve before I left.
Those are two very different categories.
I decided pretty quickly that I wasn't going to pack the apartment myself. I hired movers to do that.
I wasn't going to completely reorganize every drawer before it went into a box.
I wasn't going to turn decluttering into some massive minimalist purge.
And if something could reasonably wait until I got to the new house, it waited.
Honestly, that probably helped me more than anything else.
The question I kept asking myself
Whenever I caught myself adding another thing to the list, I asked:
Does this actually need to happen before I move?
Sometimes the answer was yes.
A surprising amount of the time, the answer was no.
That doesn't come naturally to me. I like being prepared. I like knowing I've thought through every detail.
But nine days gave me a very good reason to stop treating every task like an emergency especially to keep my sanity alive.

For now, I still have plenty to do.
Just considerably less than I could have given myself.
And I am very okay with that.
Btw, the video does show a sneak peek of my new home so I hope you'll watch and share in the joy with me.
